The key principals at Ascension are Kabelo Moja as CEO and Kabelo Senoelo who are supported by two associates.
The Ascension team have significant private equity and corporate finance experience within various sectors and have been engaged with top tier private equity firms as principals, advisers or co-investors.

Kabelo Moja (“Kabelo”) is a seasoned deal maker, with significant experience in deal origination and execution. Kabelo is a qualified and admitted attorney of the High Court of the Republic of South Africa. His qualifications include an LLB and Postgraduate Diploma in Tax from the University of the Witwatersrand and a LLM from the University of Pretoria. In his prior position as a senior legal advisor to the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited, Kabelo was principally involved in the structuring of commercial and private equity transactions, negotiating and preparation of transaction agreements, and the provision of legal advisory services within the unlisted and listed investments space.
Kabelo has worked at the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited as a senior legal advisor and periodically held an acting executive head of legal role, National Treasury of South Africa as a legal commercial director, Absa Bank Limited and at Hogan Lovells South Africa. He has extensive experience in corporate restructuring, mergers, corporate finance, litigation, a host of debt, equity and mezzanine funding and private equity across a diverse range of industries. Recent projects that Kabelo has been involved in include an equity and debt investment into an ICT business, an urban property development and management business and a broadband services provider. Kabelo is also a member of the SAVCA board of directors.
Kabelo also forms part of the Ascension Investment Committee.

Kabelo Senoelo, as CIO, is a qualified Chartered Accountant, CA(SA), qualified with Deloitte and has 10 years post articles experience in financial services. Kabelo most recently worked for the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited as a fund principal in the private equity and structured investment products team, with a focus on investments in South Africa and the Rest of Africa across various sectors. The portfolio has assets under management of c. ZAR95 billion across private equity and structured products. In his role as fund principal, Kabelo has closed transactions (approved and disbursed) worth a total amount of ZAR4.2 billion across infrastructure, information communications technology, agricultural services, and financial services amongst others. This includes structuring, pricing, valuation and negotiation of legal terms and price of transactions, as well as formulation of post-transaction close value add strategies. Kabelo has also served as a non-executive director on a number of portfolio companies whilst at the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited.
Kabelo also worked at Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking as a credit risk analyst, supporting debt transactions focusing on structured debt and commodity finance. In this role Kabelo supported deal teams in closing more than ZAR6 billion worth of structured debt transactions across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. At Standard Bank Kabelo also worked as a financial manager supporting the equity derivatives desk.

Sipho was an Assistant Manager in EY’s Transaction Tax Africa practice for 2 years before joining Ascension. He is a qualified tax adviser following the completion of his articles at EY.
He holds an Honours Degree specialising in Taxation and a BCom Degree in Financial Accounting from the University of Cape Town.
He has experience in both corporate and private equity due diligence, tax structuring of transactions including asset acquisitions, share acquisitions, mergers and cross-border transactions across Africa
Tertius qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2014 after completing his articles in the Banking and Capital Markets division of PwC Sunninghill. At the start of 2015 he went on a short term secondment to New York City through Makosi Consulting. He specialized in financial service clients throughout his articles.
Tertius is a CFA Charter holder and worked on numerous corporate finance transactions and also gained valuable experience in venture capital at Pallidus Capital for the last 4 years prior to joining Ascension.
